The BookViral Review:

An extensively researched and beautifully observed Biographical Historical Fiction, The Road To Moresco proves a perceptive study of people following their dreams in the only way they know how.

Delving into what is really interesting about a person’s life, including noteworthy achievements, moments of adversity, and major turning points is not easy and far too many releases in the Biographical Historical Fiction genre end up losing the thread of a good story. But The Road To Moresco proves a genuine treasure of a read with Jamilkowski giving us a strong sense of his characters. They’re emotionally powerful, drawn with delicacy and sensitivity and his scenes often weep with pain as his affection for them shines through.

At just 300 pages it’s a credit to Jamilkowski that he has included such sweeping detail and many historical touchstones but whilst The Road To Moresco spans a period of some 150 years it’s the lives of mother and daughter Maria-Luisa Moresco and Chiara that are placed under Jamilkowski’s spotlight.

As their lives unfold there are grand, tormented revelations but it’s the accretion of little moments, often tragically sad, that colour their characters as he takes us by the hand through their most challenging moments. A host of encounters and experiences, of triumphs and tragedies that are always illuminating as both Maria-Luisa Moresco and Chiara come to observe and reflect upon their loves, losses, accomplishments and failures.

On Maria-Luisa Moresco’s part, her passion for music drives her but it leaves little room for her children with Chiara becoming estranged and resentful. Here Jamilkowski captures the conflicts, aspirations, and vulnerabilities that arise between them as they explore their own feelings, experiences, and unresolved issues within their personal relationships to weave a thread of palpable depth and complexity.

Despite their estrangement The Road to Morescon is ultimately a tapestry of human connections, and in exploring the complicated mother-daughter relationship between Maria-Luisa Moresco and Chiara Jamilkowski encapsulates broader societal dynamics, encapsulating themes of identity, gender roles, generational shifts, and cultural influences.

An incredibly powerful read and one not easily forgotten The Road to Moresco is an unreservedly recommended Golden Quill read.
