The BookViral Review:

Up and coming new author Alexander Ellis brings us a daring of epic proportions in ‘Till I Bleed No More’. A story of human vigour and frailty, of love and revenge, and above all sheer determination, this stirring tale cuts to the essence of survival and of life’s purpose, as its daring protagonist staggers from one perilous escapade to the next, and tacks from determination to resignation.

It’s early 18th Century and piracy is all but eradicated. England, a cruel and prosperous nation, exerts its far-reaching influence throughout the world dipping its greedy fingers into other lands and making slaves out of free men.

Casper, a young naval man has seen through their treachery and has had enough. He embarks on a new career-piracy. Not long into his new life, his ship is destroyed and he and another boy, Fletch, are marooned on an unforgiving Island.

What follows is his desperate struggle not only for survival but revenge. Dreams and circumstances eventually lead him back to his persecutor, Commodore Weiss, a strong and fearless woman who wields influence and power.

Though strongly entrenched in a historical piracy era this is not your usual tale of pillage and power, but a testament to both sexes, where terrifyingly able females are just as much of a threat as their male counterparts, and where the pirate does not always triumph. Nevertheless, Ellis spares a nod for the fairer sex in Zaria, a feminine and empathic young maroon girl, for whom Casper develops a growing affection.

With plenty of intricately explained fight scenes and cliffhanger moments, Casper holds onto life by the skin of his teeth, fighting tooth and nail through adversity to reach his goal in a three-step forward one step back, cat and mouse venture. The dreaded island calls him back more than once, as do his co-characters, popping up with menacing regularity just at the most inopportune moments. However, his determination and verve make for a stirring and heart-stopping read.

A great read for those with a thirst for vintage adventure and a notable debut for Alexander Ellis.
