The BookViral Review:

If you’re looking for a read about infidelity, you may want to drop what you’re doing and read Future Consequences. A novella and book one in Phillip Keels’ East End series which gets straight to the heart of the matter with an uncomfortable, but realistic look at cheating that shows how the consequences often end up hurting the wrong people, intertwined with the reality of living with an abusive husband.

Keels is a keen observer who filters out superfluous detail and through his alternating perspectives of Navy man Chill and Chantelle he brings a disquieting edge to his story that rarely feels deliberate as they teeter on the edge of monumental decisions.  And with Keels orchestrating whiplash changes of mood and unexpected in direction his narrative is unashamedly egocentric, misogynistic and as real as it gets.

Underpinned by authentic dialogue you can imagine Keels writing Future Consequences with a wry smile on his face and by the end of the book, it’s hard not to feel close to Chill and Chantelle. But Future Consequences is not simply a novel about love and sex, though both have their place. It’s about an idea. About ingrained prejudices, missed opportunities and events beyond our control. It’s about not letting life slip through our fingers. About seizing the moment and all the scenes between Chill and Chantel underpin this idea with Keels hitting the right narrative notes and shadings.

Firmly sitting in novella territory Future Consequences may be a quick read but it is far from predictable with an unexpected that will leave readers on tenterhooks and waiting for the next release in Keels Series. If you are a reader looking to explore the often painful consequences of infidelity it’s one you may want to consider!

In The BookViral Spotlight

Daisy Roberts is Dead is nothing if not an original novel, especially in the realm of the supernatural. In the hands of a less astute author, it might have turned into a heaping serving of metaphysical gobbledygook but Claire Gallagher takes us on an unpredictable and mesmerizing journey with many astonishingly tender moments. With a narrative that embraces the sensibilities of the genre, Gallagher does a fine job of capturing the contemporary everyday textures of life with heartfelt observations on sorrow but without the need for lump-in-the-throat histrionics. It’s sincere with the gentle, nourishing quality of a fairy tale that you want to believe, but the unsoftened impact of gut-level entertainment.

Ghost Paranormal Romance

A wonderfully disarming read about love and loss Daisy Roberts is Dead refreshingly avoids many of the genre’s syrupy dangers leaving the reader with the truth of the matter. Which is the way it should be.
