The BookViral Review:

A crackling, fast-moving thriller that’s not afraid of sentiment, Persecution: A Pastor Stephen Grant Novel takes its readers into the framework theatre of covert operations with a narrative that fulfils its purpose with vigour and confidence.

With themes of courage, patriotism, love and adherence to personal values it’s a hard book to put down as Keating overcomes clichéd genre tropes to deliver genuinely stirring drama that explores the themes of religious persecution and martyrdom.

On this level, and in these dark times, Keating’s plot is powerfully poignant. It is not just a thriller but a confirmer, endorsing our fears that the world is headed for disaster with a sharp increase in violent sectarian and religious tensions across the globe.

On a narrative level Persecution follows genre convention in which the hero goes everywhere important and personally performs most of the crucial actions. Still, it never feels contrived because of Keating’s strong affinity for his subject matter and he does a spellbinding job of cranking up the tension to create a portrait of convincing realism.

There’s no escaping the profound sentiments and ironies of his plot and to this end, Keating’s characters are both clearly defined and charismatic. They amplify the horrors and magnitude of the events in which they find themselves embroiled but there’s a more wistful undertone too that brings a visceral sense of immediacy and warmth as proceedings and relationships evolve.

Capturing an authentic tone in fiction is never easy but through Pastor Stephen Grant Keating’s passion shines through. Conveying Grant’s thoughts in unpretentious words and actions without losing their impact and there are few readers who will turn the last page and not want more.

A first-class thriller and an uncompromising five-star read Persecution: A Pastor Stephen Grant Novel is unreservedly recommended!
