The BookViral Review:

Heartfelt and intimate David Gauthier’s diarised style autobiography proves an interesting release in the memoir and autobiography genre.

It’s a relatively quick read written with a refreshing degree of candour and whilst his words may mean different things to different people his reflections on life, love and the choices we make will resonate with many of his readers leading them to reflect on the relationships we build and those relationships we hold most dear.

It might be written in unpretentious and simple prose but that doesn’t detract from Gauthier’s reflections. From the abuse of his sister to the loves of his life, community and culture he shares his memories without grandstanding and no contrived attempt at drama.

At times it can prove a harrowing read but kindness connects and enriches our lives and this is something Gauthier is acutely aware of. His honesty is refreshingly uplifting and it’s clear from the start that despite the brevity of his prose an inquisitive and probing mind is at work as he recounts pivotal events in his life.

Love doesn’t discriminate and by sharing his relationship experiences Gauthier also reflects on the pain of breakups and the lingering impact they have on our emotional well-being and sometimes our ability to trust the sincerity of others.

A candid read that peels back the veneer on Gauthier’s life Kanata Waltz may appeal to readers wanting to stray from the path of celebrity tell-alls in favour of something more grounded and honest.

See A Witch About A Curse certainly has all the ingredients required to pique the curiosity of its target audience but whereas most YA offerings omit (relatively) complex motifs and themes in favour of building tangible relationships between good-looking clothe horses, Hussain gets the balance just right.
