The BookViral Review:
A bittersweet romance about feelings, second chances, and finding yourself, Another Amy proves a strong debut for Mitchell who declines to serve up an archetypal romance in favour of a rather more genuine tale that explores the veracities of love, loss and relationships.
Quickly getting to grips with the all-important relationship dynamics Mitchell’s dialogue is characteristically revealing and above all authentic. Yes, love after loss is a popular theme in romance novels but Mitchell’s offering is far from pedestrian as she adds an exploration of hope and expectation that permeates throughout her narrative.
On this level, it proves a welcome relief from the dearth of dumbed-down romances that populate the genre. We quickly come to care about and feel for Amy and Dean because they are so easily relatable and in this way, they are rightly liberated from the plot’s destiny. Yes, we suspect from the start where Mitchell is leading us. There’s no getting away from the fact that she’s beautiful and he’s charismatic and devilishly handsome but whilst another author might have opted for a more saccharin narrative Mitchell keeps it real. Reminding us how confusing love can be as she delivers a beguiling blend of moving and affecting moments.
A fun and intelligent romance that readers will find wholly absorbing, Another Amy proves a strong debut for Mitchell and is highly recommended.
