The BookViral Review:

A riveting nautical crime tale that quickly cranks up a full head of steam, On A Caribbean Tide delivers a compelling sense of adventure and a sure-footed plot with Lawhon careful not to sacrifice pace for superfluous detail.

All the best books are character-driven. You can have an original plot, but if the reader doesn’t care if your protagonist lives or dies then chances are they won’t get to the end of your book. Most importantly protagonists have to be interesting but not clichéd and this is something Lawhon certainly gets right.

Readers wanting, ruthless villains and harrowing escapades won’t be disappointed. When it comes to spinning a good yarn Lawhon creates vividly complete fictional personas but more importantly he makes us care about them.

Locked in a race against time to retrieve the Donna Marie he commands our attention from the first page as the plot thickens and the suspense continues to mount. Underpinned by a deft narrative, just the right tonal flourishes to bring his characters to life and plenty of local colour the camaraderie is superb with Caleb, Donna, Juky and Johnny Mac all but leaping off the page!

Far too many crime novels come across as generic rehashes of older stories so it is always refreshing to come across something which is original and On A Caribbean Tide is definitely that! Avoiding the trap of a dull, predictive plot Lawhon has a keen ear for dialogue which brings an exciting level of immediacy to his narrative which is well-conceived and finely tuned to the story he’s telling.

A highly enjoyable read throughout On A Caribbean Tide is pure escapism and highly recommended!
