The BookViral Review:

A puzzle in which the puzzle is actually worth the time and effort to solve Terror Bay proves a gripping Psychological Thriller from beginning to end.

All the best psychological thrillers have an irreducible, inexplicable element, beyond their cleverness and craft and such is the hold Terror Bay has from its opening pages with Towles revelling in her flair for gripping twists with narrative style.

A vivid and insightful author she has a particularly acerbic eye for the pressures and poignancies of her characters which combined with her ability to craft an edgy and intriguing plot rapidly draws her readers in.

Terror Bay isn’t particularly long at a little over 200 pages but everything Towles writes is focused and it’s rare to find extraneous detail that doesn’t move her narrative forward as she manipulates the usual genre trappings of heightened tension, questionable motives and characters with hidden agendas.

Towles always brings a great deal more to her characters than we expect in a thriller. Here she captures the pulse of Kurt’s haunting obsession with Genevieve Lucas in a taut game of cat and mouse but she never allows the twists to become too generic or far-fetched for their own good as she develops the outstanding interplay between her key characters.

This makes for intricate plot threads that allow the tension to rise with crisp scenes that are easy to follow whilst mounting momentum comes from the supernatural connection between Kurt and Genevieve and the modulation of Vaughn’s character who is not what he seems.

With its absorbing storytelling style, Terror Bay is an intense ride, written for readers who enjoy the thrill of the chase and the intricacies of a mesmerising mystery. A Golden Quill read it is unreservedly recommended!
