SUMMARY: Frozen human body parts hideously displayed at the crime scenes offers a horrifying interpretation that only a sadistic serial killer could design—and execute and vigilante detective Emily Stone must face her most daring case yet. Whilst young and ambitious, Detective Danny Starr, catches the homicide cases and discovers that it will test everything he knows about police work
The BookViral Review: A great read in any genre must invariably go beyond its lead protagonists and this is where The Emily Stone series really sets itself apart. Stone may well take centre stage, but Chase always manages to deliver a host of auxiliary characters that are hard to forget and a measure of intrigue that proves wholly enthralling. Dead Cold continues The Emily Stone series in the same vein with an intelligent, adrenaline infused cocktail of action and intrigue. Yes, as with any established series, there are familiar elements made new, but with an engrossing plot, Dead Cold is its own creature with a gritty sense of reality that makes it feel wholly authentic. Given Chase’s qualifications in serial crime and criminal profiling this shouldn’t come as a surprise and here she uses that knowledge too but as good as the characters and dialogue are, Dead Cold is at its best when it focuses on twisted nature of Stone’s latest assignment and its consequences. The pacing is quick and agile without being frenzied and as always it makes for a riveting and suspenseful page turner.
To be read as a standalone novel or part of the series, Dead Cold sees Chase take her tried and tested formula to the next level and is sure to be enthusiastically received by her many fans. Simply another great read in an award winning series, it is recommended without reservation.
