SUMMARY:

Jason was a lucky fellow. He married a former doctor, albeit a notorious one with a wicked past. The dream home he fantasized about, a remote villa in the pristine Andean mountains of Peru, dangled within reach. And the pandemics sweeping the globe killing millions receded into a distant malady that afflicted other people, those with no apparent plan for their future. But when a pain develops in his groin, and his wife recommends visiting the nearby local hospital, everything changes.

The BookViral Review:

A taut Dystopian Medical Thriller, Health Reformation: Murder, Medicine and Rehab in the Age of Pandemics delivers on multiple levels.

You can take it for granted that J. N. de Bedout’s writing is first class. And there’s more than enough unexpected plot twists to keep the attention of readers throughout as he draws them into the ensuing drama and a riveting Machiavellian plot.

With tight, focused scenes creating a sense of realism we get the dual perspectives of doctor Covidella Crane, “The Culvaine Street Executioner” and her ailing husband Jason. These set against a post 2047 backdrop that has seen radical changes in the way health care is funded and administered.

Nicely capturing the little quirks in typical conversation along with a liberal sprinkling of satire J. N. de Bedout generates the kind of edge of your seat intrigue that keeps one glued to the words and the pages turning.

As a purely entertaining read, it’s certainly true to the genre. But it’s also a story with ideas that are smart and proactive. Covidella and Jason are strong visual characters and through them, you can’t help wondering if J. N. de Bedout’s dystopian future is closer than it first might seem! Would you want to perform your own operation directed by a computer?

Highly enjoyable Health Reformation: Murder, Medicine and Rehab in the Age of Pandemics is sure to meet with approval from fans of the genre and is strongly recommended.

It is a novel with the courage to be about complex, sweeping emotions with Waldrip effectively using the alternate perspectives of disparate timelines to create a marvellously pacy, suspenseful read which is deceptively easy to become immersed in.
