The BookViral Review:
Fast-paced, and with as many twists and turns as a Mediterranean coast road, ‘How Long is a Mouse’s Tail’ weaves swiftly and captivatingly through an intricate plot, whilst the foremost murderous mystery keeps the reader guessing.
In a village that harbours many a secret of its own, Anton Page is viciously persecuted for a murder he did-or maybe did not-perform; that of his stunning wife Lizzie. As he struggles to revive a long-dead veterinary practice, now run to rack and ruin from his 20 years in prison, his life takes an unexpected trajectory, as the past looms up to consume him.
It’s against this backdrop that Stolworthy takes his readers on a bumpy ride as the protagonist’s emotions ebb and flow, and relationships take three steps forward, and two steps back. His difficult connection with his daughter being only superseded by that of a waif, Willow, who hobbles out of the forest on homemade crutches to enter his life.
The resulting tale, which links depraved village toffs, the local constabulary, and archetypal gossipy villagers keep readers on their toes and the pages turning whilst multi-dimensional characters who refreshingly deviate from genre stereotyping lend interest to the story as they take part in a literary dance of murderous intrigue.
Sweeping on towards a surprising and somewhat fraught finale, the characters crash and burn in a wonderfully spectacular display of retribution and remorse, leaving only the truly innocent as winners.
Despite a conspiracy unashamedly larger than life, Stolworthy expertly crafts his writing with well-thought-out and original metaphors, creating moments of insight while his mindful and unique imagery is a delight to read.
Sure to be well received by discerning fans of the Murder Fiction genre How Long is a Mouse’s Tail is a five-star highly recommended read!
