The BookViral Review:

A genuine gem of a read Everybody Loves Grace: A True Story of Grace’s Adventure To Pennsylvania proves another wonder-filled release from Katy McQuaid who once again gives us a corker of a story.

Quite often in illustrated children’s books the words or illustrations will outweigh the other to the detrimental impact of the message, but McQuaid and Lavalley compliment each other perfectly. With Lavalley’s illustrations of Grace and the places she visits perfectly capturing the tone of McQuaid’s tale whilst her muted colour palette adds richness and depth. These combining with McQuaid’s delightful prose to make a story that looks and reads quite effortlessly but which, in reality, is rather rare.

With a tactile vocabulary that stirs the senses, A True Story of Grace’s Adventure To Pennsylvania is a special book. A book that’s immersive and full of life as we journey with Grace and her Mommy through seven American states. A journey which when seen from Grace’s unique viewpoint becomes a journey of magical discovery.

In an age defined by an endless stream of sophisticated and unrelenting media enticing children to want things they believe they must have McQuaid gives her young readers a wonderfully unencumbered perspective. One that’s part history lesson and part geography lesson in a series that reflects on those qualities that connect and enrich our lives.

Stories like these are sadly only too rare but along with a little humour Everybody Loves Grace: A True Story of Grace’s Adventure To Pennsylvania has everything you’d expect from a children’s classic and is unreservedly recommended.

The Occult -why the fascination with dark fiction?

While the occult is a broad umbrella, hiding its many forms under its silky black folds, it’s concepts have endured through time, enjoying many a resurgence through the ages. The term ‘occultism’, is relatively new, not used in French or English literature, for instance, until the 19th Century, although the term ‘occult sciences’ was commonly used in the 16th Century to describe practices such as astrology, alchemy, mysticism, and natural magic.
