The BookViral Review: With his intriguing look into the pages of history, Larry Jorgensen brings us an epic true-life account of resilience and reward in ‘Shipwrecked and Rescued: Cars and Crew’.

Chronicling a fascinating feat from a bygone era, Jorgensen really captures the essence of this remarkable achievement, which sees a nail-biting trek across inhospitable terrain in terrifyingly inclement weather, and not one, but two outstanding rescue missions, firstly to recover valuable 1927 Chrysler’s from an icy tomb, and secondly to salvage valuable and much-needed metal for the war effort.

Perhaps one of the most famous shipwreck stories of the over 6000 ships to have met their doom on the Great Lakes of America, the City of Bangor story epitomises both the highly unpredictable nature of weather and topography in that area and of the resolve of its people, who’s dogged determination turned a disaster into a success story.

Complete with complimentary illustrations and photographs, an account branching over decades is brought to life, as is the dedication and tenacity of those involved with rescue and reclamation projects, and the altruistic nature of those local to tragedy, which ultimately and astoundingly resulted in no loss to human life.

Jorgensen’s attention to detail is evident in his comprehensive and meticulous description of events, as is his research, which includes not only the bare facts but delves into the motivations and the nature of those involved in both rescue and recovery efforts.

Additional interesting elements, such as the life story of Ida Bergh, who gave shelter to the shipwrecked, and eventually went on to become Sherrif following her husband’s demise, bring the story to life, as do the images and information chronicling the fate of the rescued Chryslers.

Set against a background of great industry and trade on the Great Lakes of America, ‘Shipwrecked and Rescued: Cars and Crew’ is firmly recommended for the enthusiast.
