The BookViral Review:

A delightfully humorous children’s tale with a serious underlying theme Grandma Carol’s Adventures is a magical combination of fun reading and whimsical illustrations.

With its absorbing narrative, it offers just the right mix of vivid characters whilst providing the ideal opportunity for dialogue with young readers on the issues of memory loss in our later years. And though Ofengenden doesn’t refer to Dementia or Alzheimer’s specifically the humorous structure of Grandma Carol’s Adventures provides an accessible introduction to the issues surrounding them.

As events with Leo and his Grandma move forward, Ofengenden packs her story with amusing twists, which are echoed perfectly by the enchantingly comical illustrations of Emmanuel Gilad. These emotionally connect Ofengenden’s fast-moving storyline to her charismatic characters and will likely help relieve anxieties children might have about someone close to them who is living with memory loss.

The subject of memory loss aside Grandma Carol’s Adventures ensures young readers are guaranteed more than a few belly laughs as they delve into Leo and his Grandma’s hilarious escapades. From chasing a thief on the beach, to causing a brawl and a nail-biting car drive Leo’s Grandma seems to have an endless reserve of energy. It’s the most he can do to keep up but wherever she goes he stands by her side. Even when he knows her memory is playing tricks on her and it is this that makes Grandma Carol’s Adventures such a warm and heartfelt story.

A thoroughly enjoyable, entertaining and engrossing read, saying Grandma Carol’s Adventures is simply funny would be an understatement and it is highly recommended!

The term ‘occultism’, is relatively new, not used in French or English literature, for instance, until the 19th Century, although the term ‘occult sciences’ was commonly used in the 16th Century to describe practices such as astrology, alchemy, mysticism, and natural magic.
