The BookViral Review:
From its powerful opening chapter to a cracking denouement, A Full Quiver proves a riveting debut in a genre that far too often suffers from a lack of originality.
A Family Life Fiction Drama that treads on well-worn middle-class territory but distinguishes itself by the complexity of author Callahan’s characters and the intriguing ambiguity of their actions it has an undeniable aura of intrigue and suspense with Callahan delivering a stylish plot that’s brimming with cliffhangers and a narrative that benefits from perpetual momentum.
The best Family Life Fiction Drama novels tell stories about characters doing something extraordinary and here Callahan uses this premise to open up the vast, still largely uncharted terrain of providence and the human heart.
Marshalled around a diverse cast of vividly realized characters she doesn’t overplay them but cleverly manipulates our expectations with the mood further enhanced by a captivatingly vibrant blend of suspense that pushes all the requisite buttons while still managing to throw in a pleasant surprise or two.
In the overwhelming majority of books, pages are simply turned as events happen on the page but in the best books, the reader is drawn to see events as though they are experiencing them alongside the characters and on this level Callahan certainly delivers.
At times A Full Quiver leans towards the melancholic as back stories for the children are explored but this is offset by charm and humour through its young central characters whilst the intrigue that surrounds Steve Griffin and Jennifer Mei gives A Full Quiver an authentic and urgent sense of legitimacy which permeates throughout Callahan’s prose.
An enjoyable Family Fiction Drama A Full Quiver cartwheels onwards until it lands at its unexpected but perfectly pitched ending and is highly recommended!
