The BookViral Review:
Taking its readers deep into the souls of its characters in an immersive and exciting read, D.M Williams’ latest novel ‘Definition of Flawless’, steps outside the boundaries of normality as it takes us on a journey of whirlwind romance, thrilling mystery and endless twists and turns, whilst filling the spaces between with the day to day business of living.
Barlow, the reluctant owner of the title ‘Batchelor of the Year’ for three years running, is all set to stay that way until a chance meeting sweeps the rug from beneath him as he falls hopelessly head over heels for the tiny but feisty Chasity Weems. With endearing tenderness, Chasity’s maturity and understanding breaks through his self-made veneer as the two become inseparable, only to be torn apart by the jealousy of others.
With carefully crafted and controlled dialogue, Williams prises her characters open delicately, subtly revealing their personas as we become more immersed in their connections and relationships, feeling every fear and emotion as the plot unfolds, whilst her pared-down narrative creates space for the protagonist and his leading lady to bloom. Refreshingly sincere, the depth of social texture in her story compliments the narrative, adding weight and believability.
Though jam-packed full of action, Williams tempers her fast-paced plot with the softness of Christianity and decency, leaving room for readers to ponder the value of belief as an antidote to trauma, and the road to both physical and emotional recovery. She expertly weaves relevant and real-life issues among the pages, gently nudging her readers towards reflection and meditation of their own principles and convictions.
With a triumphant conclusion, Williams set the reader up for the next in the anthology, ‘Barlow Redefined’.
