The BookViral Review:
Rarely is found a novel with the depth and breadth of Sabrina Mailhot’s huge new undertaking, ‘Fated-between light and shadow’.
The sheer magnitude of Mailhot’s imagination is staggering as Mailhot tracks the journey of her protagonist, Athena, as she moves from teenage school-girl to reluctant saviour of the world.
From a distinctly human-like setting set in a parallel world of mystical beings, Athena is an oddity. Neither one nor the other, but with the sometimes dangerous attribute of being human in a school chock of vampires, she is the result of her Mothers philandering with another species-an activity strictly banned in the supernatural world. With her interesting take on character formation, Mailhot expertly blends the youth of her cast with the ancient rumblings of immortality.
Central to the plot are Zack, Duke of Hell, and Adriel, her guardian angel, who use both their magical strength and their powers of seduction to influence their charge. Add to the mix Seth, Loki, and a few other charismatic and alluring male beings, and the stage is set for conflict, as they bicker their way amusingly through the story, all with adoration for Athena-despite some natural instincts that see her as the next meal. All hell breaks loose as she is catapulted from her uncomfortable school life to being sought by all manner of species, some wishing to control and others hell-bent on destruction.
Loaded with mysterious messages and visions, spells and potions, and magnificent scenes of otherworldly warfare, nothing is left out as the quest takes Athena and her companions through strange realms to face great monsters and mythical creatures.
With a rather judicious amount of tongue-in-cheek blood and gore, Mailhot delivers the required amount of nose-wrinkling detail, whilst also challenging her reader with rather more intellectual content. Symbolic references to the revelations and Pandora’s box, from which escape representations of deadly sins, each cleverly cloaked in their own personalities as they both assist and resist Athena’s mission, lend an air of familiarity steeped in ancient philosophy and mythology.
With a whirlwind delivery, Mailhot’s spellbinding story will take you to places you could never have imagined!

A fascinating foray into the world of apartheid in South Africa, ‘My Brother Themba’ is a touching story of two ‘brothers’ of differing parentage, forcefully separated but fighting for their relationship by the shocking segregation laws that existed right up until a democratic government was elected 1994, and still exist in practice implicitly to some extent today.
Never before has the voice of social commentary in literature sung higher. Freedom of speech has brought with it a cacophony of loudly spoken, written and sometimes harshly promoted opinion and judgement.
Near Death Experience’s or NDEs as they are more commonly called are not a new phenomenon; they’ve been reported throughout history and yet few subjects create so much division.
It’s a question that’s courted more than a little controversy over the years, but there’s a significant difference between paying for a book review with no influence over the resulting review and paying for a review that is guaranteed to be overwhelmingly favourable,
