The BookViral Review:

It seems a failing of many First Contact novels that plots are layered to the point where they become ponderous and impenetrable, but in developing his narrative for Through The Raging Storm Kilgore keeps it unerringly simple with a clear understanding of what will keep his readers engaged.

In doing so he proves that first-contact novels need not be cold or mechanistic with mindblowing technology to create an impact and most importantly they work best when they seem well within the realm of possibility. And to this end Through The Raging Storm is a warm and pleasurable read that captures the feeling of awe and wonder we have when considering the likelihood of life beyond earth.

With its easy pace and intriguing plot it’s compelling but it’s not a read to be rushed as it’s the progress of Kilgore’s plot, not the process, which makes his novel particularly engaging. Most importantly he doesn’t make the mistake of exalting his characters as extraordinary individuals. Developing them with a meticulous eye for the nuances of camaraderie without dictating what we’re supposed to think about the big picture.

With Joe taking the lead the members of the morning coffee group might seem an unlikely group to establish first contact with alien technology but they know a thing or two about resilience and woe betide anyone who underestimates them!

Readers looking for a genuinely original read need to look no further than Through The Raging Storm. A novel that makes its readers feel like active participants in its unfolding narrative as the mystery of their alien find unfolds, it is highly recommended!

The Occult -why the fascination with dark fiction?

While the occult is a broad umbrella, hiding its many forms under its silky black folds, it’s concepts have endured through time, enjoying many a resurgence through the ages. The term ‘occultism’, is relatively new, not used in French or English literature, for instance, until the 19th Century, although the term ‘occult sciences’ was commonly used in the 16th Century to describe practices such as astrology, alchemy, mysticism, and natural magic.
