The BookViral Review:

It’s very hard to find a truly unique Science Fiction novel these days, but Clint Green has truly delivered with his first offering. Star’s Odyssey really does tick all the boxes, whilst avoiding the pitfalls of wildly fantastical aliens and chaotic storylines.

Green’s plot remains tight throughout as we follow the crew through the universe in a struggle for survival and discovery. With a great opening hook, we are introduced to Alex; asset 574, who floats suspended in an agonising wait as the Vrexen, a predatory race, keep captured creatures alive as they harvest body parts to imbed into a macabre ship built from the best living assets the universe has to offer.

As Alex watches the gradual depletion of another agonised human in the pod opposite, he resigns himself to his inevitable fate, until he finds himself somehow restored. Joining a small company of survivors, Alex learns that the ship itself is a living breathing creature, Star, harnessed for her ability to move seamlessly through the universe.

Whilst Green satisfies the demand for imaginatively crafted aliens and otherworldly species, he does not linger on their evident differences. Rather, he uses their unique characteristics as a bond which forges into a seamless team as they take on evil and fanatical alien life forces hell-bent on their destruction.

Despite ticking all the intricate boxes which demand continuity of plot and believable technology, Green also manages to satisfy the need for fantastic imagery. His descriptive prose is breathtaking in parts, leading his reader into unfamiliar but beautiful territory as the crew seeks to find answers for stunning abandoned cities and the reason behind their demise.

Setting up further books in his compilation beautifully, Green leaves us hungering for more as the crew set out to rescue other enslaved aliens of Star’s kind and take in the enigmatic Rafen, who harbours a story of his own.

With the promise of more thrilling adventures to come in Stars Promise, Star’s Odyssey is an unreservedly recommended 5-star read.

The Occult -why the fascination with dark fiction?

While the occult is a broad umbrella, hiding its many forms under its silky black folds, it’s concepts have endured through time, enjoying many a resurgence through the ages. The term ‘occultism’, is relatively new, not used in French or English literature, for instance, until the 19th Century, although the term ‘occult sciences’ was commonly used in the 16th Century to describe practices such as astrology, alchemy, mysticism, and natural magic.
