The BookViral Review:

A riotous, fun read from the start Marc Renson gives his readers a novel that not only delivers plenty in the way of humour but doesn’t insult their intelligence whilst unapologetically making a play for their emotions.

Perfectly pitched, scoring big laughs and heartfelt moments Renson’s narrative is quick to relax into a stream of clever repartee and amusing situations, and it’s easy to get swept up in its charms and infectious comic gusto as Michael’s life changes beyond all recognition.

Like much LGBTQ fiction How Will I Know is less concerned with plot (though excellent) than it is about giving us a feeling for its characters and here the relationship between Michael and the ghost of gay icon Whitney Houston is simply sublime. Renson has tapped into what made Whitney Houston such an iconic figure. From her charm and wit to her spotlight-stealing clothes she not only materializes in her ghostly form for Michael but Renson’s readers too.

But a novel like How Will I Know lives or dies on more than its main characters and here Renson gives us a sublime supporting cast that all but jumps off the page with confident character dynamics. The most expansive of them are Michael’s best friend Lucy, his ever flamboyant and uber rich mother Olivia and media mogul Charles who are an integral part of Michael’s journey on the path to achieving his dreams.

With a novel that’s so boisterously entertaining, it’s easy for the unsuspecting reader not to realize that there’s a message here but the message is simple. Never give up on your dreams and be open to help along the way. Even when it comes from the most unlikely sources!

A super introduction to Marc Renson’s distinctive brand of LGBTQ fiction How Will I Know is highly recommended!
