The BookViral Review:

Undeniably original and audaciously humorous Mike Murphey has delivered an off-the-wall science fiction geeks smorgasbord of a novel! A novel that invalidates time-travelling tropes and clichés to take us on a laugh-out-loud journey that challenges reality. And if Mike Murphey’s one aim in writing Quantum Consequence was to batter our senses into submission then he’s achieved this with ease.

The one-liners, causal asides, and occasional in-jokes may not have universal appeal but Murphey has bags of wit, style and imagination, which are firmly rooted, albeit over the top, in credible characterization.

Book 5 of 5 in Murphey’s Physics, Lust and Greed Series it’s clear that he isn’t simply expecting to coast on the goodwill of his readers as he finds smart ways to bring novelty to his series without forsaking what makes the Science Fiction genre so distinctive with Quantum Consequence at its best when it simply owns its own absurdity.

There are some comparatively calm spots in Quantum Consequence but in the main Murphey’s narrative continues at its typical break-neck speed as he blends science fiction and comedy into a coherent whole. It makes an ideal read for when you just want to relax and have fun without having to think too hard and whilst Murphey’s rapid-fire prose and overlapping dialogue are often reminiscent of Robin Williams on speed yet they never seem unnatural or forced.

Murphey seems to have enjoyed himself immensely in creating a cast of eccentric and strangely likeable characters and a couple of infuriating AIs with the names Judy Garland and Lady Godiva, grand potentate of the Cooperative Republic of Electronic Self-Awareness, as he uses absurdity to reel us in. Don’t expect any psychological depth here, but the cool wit and fun are deftly maintained, as Murphey juggles multiple plot threads and delivers a bountiful supply of both fanciful and ingenious twists.

With the Quantum Special Services and the Hall Monitor always in the background, there’s oodles of high-octane adventure with Murphey careful to keep the focus on his central characters, Marta, Marshall and young Babtiste as time-tangled events play out. He refuses to adopt the kind of prescriptive narrative typically found in the genre and it’s not surprising, given the quality of Murphey’s writing, that when the last page is turned everything hangs together superbly.

If you’re looking for a read that’s completely off the wall and guaranteed to make you laugh out loud whilst highlighting the absurdity of issues that in reality are deadly  serious Quantum Consequence is highly recommended!
