The BookViral Review:

Disturbing, disorienting, quietly terrifying, Never Say A Word is one of those reads that starts like a house afire, catches you firmly in its narrative grip and refuses to let go till the very end.

There’s only one place that a novel like this can be heading, and that’s to an emotional blowout of violent, femme-power payback and in doing so Brenham has penned an ice-cold psychological thriller.

A chilling look at obsession, imperilled heroine Claire Deveraux once again finds her life turned upside down when she’s abducted by a maniacal ‘would-be husband’ who will stop at nothing to make her his wife.

As with Brenham’s Every Silent Thing, Deveraux is the heart at the centre of Brenham’s narrative but this time around the black hole that threatens to consume her is wealthy pharmaceutical magnate Franco Lazzari (an alias for Dante Scordato). A strangely remote figure whose mourning has turned to madness he is detached from reality and the consequences of his actions as Brenham ‘s narrative tension builds to an almost unbearable level.

As events evolve Brenham conjures images that distil the essence of the genre. Darkly foreboding, nail-biting, deplorable and sometimes repulsive he doesn’t spare the shocks as he delves into characters and their motivations whilst Claire Deveraux is so alive you can almost feel her pulse.

Scour the literary landscape and you can find plenty of hackneyed stories about damsels in distress. The majority lack subtlety and anything even remotely resembling credibility but Brenham gives us a superb twist and it comes in the form of Claire’s identical twin sister Megan. This not only allows him to modulate the tension, it provides several powerful and poetic turn of events which are wholly original.

A tightly-wound thriller wrought with tension and murderous intent Never Say A Word proves a superb sequel to Every Silent Thing and is an unreservedly recommended read.
