The Book Viral Review
An original and wholly absorbing short story and poetry collection, Love in Between proves nothing short of exceptional as Ballesteros introduces us to her particular brand of poetic prose. Strongly narrative in composition and powerfully drawing on the vastness of emotions she perfectly frames thought-provoking anecdotes in declarative stanzas that swing between the powerfully haunting and sentimental whilst notably managing to avoid any hint of cliché.
Her style is irresistible but what is particularly fascinating about Love In Between is Ballesteros’s infectious curiosity about the heart in crisis. The most impressive poems are about what happens when mind and soul are temporarily bereft with poems like Souls To Meet, Beautiful Fascination and Till Eternity perfectly balanced between the prosaic and the profound.
What is clear is that Ballesteros has a gift for making poetry read as effortlessly as conversation which also carries over to fiction. To this end, she has included several short stories in her collection. Stories like Seventh Heaven, She and The Last Days Of My Life which not only have metaphorical implications but are an absolute joy to read.
A beautifully written and thought-provoking collection, Love In Between proves a must-read for lovers of original poetry and short stories. It is highly recommended.
