The BookViral Review:

A taut, immersive, and well-balanced blend of whooping combat and space opera. Serenity embraces everything in Francis’ Angelfyre series that came before while pushing his fascinating science fiction odyssey into new and unexpected directions.

Far too many Science Fiction releases are nothing more than thinly layered hodgepodges of archetypes and clichés but Francis gives us so much more with a kind of liberating, almost transformational energy to his writing that sends your imagination into overdrive.

Against a background of far-flung futuristic military space technology and the wholly believable development of SI (synthetic intelligence) Francis’ narrative becomes ever tenser as Casey and Angel are drawn further into a seemingly impossible situation. And forced to make transformational decisions that will link them in a way no one thought possible. Especially Angel’s newfound creator Dr. Marcus who is astonished at their ability to slip into the fourth dimension, which allows them to travel hundreds of light years in the blink of an eye.

Francis’ staggeringly imaginative weapons of warfare, space battleships, and ingeniously created locations all blend effortlessly to present a plausible future reality with images that provoke awe and delight, and alien automation that feel lifted out of half-remembered childhood dreams.

As is the case with all great space operas, where there is evil there is heroism, and where there is bravery there is sacrifice and here Francis delivers battle sequences that feel like a maestro conducting a concerto on a galactic stage. His balanced characters merge seamlessly, with a perfect blend of emotion and ‘business as usual’, as they negotiate an existential threat from the Hyxis.

If Angelfyre (book 1 in the series) raised a lot of questions, Serenity tackles them head-on, delivering answers that will shock and awe in equal measure. There is a new dimension in the form of the darkly daunting Hellfyre as Francis checks off all the boxes you want from a top-notch Science Fiction series. His plot switches gears every time it threatens to run out of energy to leave us with a cracking cliffhanger of an ending!

Serenity and its prequel Anglefyre doesn’t just raise the bar on sci-fi action novels, it sets a new standard. A fast-paced absorbing adventure for all science fiction ‘techies’ Serenity is unreservedly recommended Golden Quill read!
