The BookViral Review:
Billionaire ‘Slayboy’ Treyton Templeton is back and Anderson is once again on top form with wickedly clever writing that refuses to let his readers escape!
Anderson doesn’t have to try to be outlandish he was born to write that way. He excels at pitch-black comedy, is a master of wicked one-liners and as with The Omnipotent the relentless self-interest of Anderson’s central character, Treyton Templeton, spreads like a particularly vehement poison ivy into every aspect of his being.
Templeton’s funny because he’s shocking—shocking in ways that you don’t want to believe another human being can be and it makes for a teetering on the edge of your seat read that’s as pointed and as rat-a-tat funny as The Omnipotent, ET TUTU, BRUTE? and La Di Da Di Bloody Da!
With momentum quick to gather the plotting and backstabbing grows more elaborate as Templeton’s plans to build his own blood drenched colosseum come together. There’s revenge to be enacted, his own particular brand of lust to be sated and he does so with unbridled flamboyance as he crafts another poisonous cocktail of naked ambition and blustery bravado with a decidedly bitter aftertaste.
The novelty of Anderson’s volcanically vulgar, double entendres has yet to wear off and it’s a credit to his versatility as a writer that he can continuously find fresh and luminous characters to place in Templeton’s way. Characters that showcase Anderson’s off-centre wit and edgy imagination whilst his comic timing and deliberate way of building up to outrageous behaviour is particularly enjoyable!
An enormously fun and delightfully venal dark comedy that’s very clever and engaging from beginning to end Colosseum is another superb 5-star release from Anderson and is unreservedly recommended.
