The BookViral Review:
Potted inspiration with no fancy frills. Dennis McVicker tells it as it is; simply and unapologetically. The basic truth – you will be happier if you achieve and maintain a healthy weight. You will be happier (and definitely healthier) if you take exercise. And you don’t need pills or fads to do so.
With no time for whingers or self-excusers, McVicker presents an incredibly straightforward approach to weight loss. However, do not make the mistake of assuming that his ‘non-coddling’ style negates an appreciation of the complex and co-dependant relationship most humans have with food.
On the contrary, McVicker not only addresses psychological challenges such as mindset and addiction but explains how these can be managed and controlled by the very acts which will nurture an optimal body and mind – exercise and healthy eating. Though a lone venture is not impossible, he also advocates sharing the journey-making yourself accountable means you are ten times more likely to succeed!
The one area McVicker encourages us not to skimp on, however, is knowledge. Knowledge of energy, both consumption and burning, is key to maintaining a healthy balance, particularly in the early days of change, and this knowledge, if applied honestly, is the key to power, and is in itself, extremely motivational. Take his simple in/out food table. Just the sure scientific knowledge and belief that ‘in’ subtracted by ‘out’ results in a deficit that can only result in weight loss is incredibly empowering and puts all the power into the hands and mind of the one acting.
A journal to dip into for encouragement and/or practical suggestions, ‘Boil the Frog’ provides a fully workable and constructive approach to a new and long-lasting you- in McVicker’s own words ‘Today’s effort is tomorrow’s body. Period. It is highly recommended!
