The BookViral Review:
Part alternative reality; part fantasy, The Krishna Kid in North Korea marks a new beginning for author, Clifford J Mikkelson, as he launches a new Superhero series featuring protagonist, Krishna Das, who is blessed with Superpowers with a difference. His ability to connect himself and others with the Infinite Spirit means he can effect change in a non-violent, non-dualistic way, as evidenced in this first adventure Liberating North Korea from its oppressive regime.
Using his belief about the Oneness of all life, Mikkelson fashions his first fictional plot around strong characters with firm ideas regarding unity and self-belief. His experiences in East Malaysia give his writing an authentic feel, as his central figures, steeped heavily in their own culture, come together to fight against injustice and repression.
With a strong emphasis on the natural world and human connection, Mikkelson restores our faith in the honourable parts of the human psyche and its desire to create change for good, and for a desire to return to a more simple time of honest communication, openness and cooperation, and a connection with the secrets of nature and natural religion.
As the drama unfolds, Krishna Das not only leads others to embrace change, but also takes his own journey of discovery, with the sweet and beautiful Hee Jae, leading to his own fulfilment in love. With the steady build-up of their relationship echoed by the progress towards independence fired by the teachings of ‘Juche’, Mikkelson brings his novel to a terrifying showdown, as the whole team are arrested for crimes against the Government and led to certain death.
Saved by secretly loyal members of the military in the nick of time, the ultimate ‘mission’ of Krishna Das is a resounding success, marred only by the inevitability of his separation from Hee Jae, as he flies off towards another Superhero adventure.
An interesting take on the popular Superhero genre, Mikkelson offers us a different way to combat the villains in this coherently written intriguing adventure.
