The BookViral Review:
Thought provoking and tender, Maksimow’s debut novel explores the very serious subject of abuse and the challenges faced by estranged parents in a read that’s sure to have you hooked from the start.
With an emotional and uncompromising plot, Maksimow demands the attention of her readers as Tania’s riveting and often dark story evolves. A story that’s not only highly visual but embraces a palpable emotional intensity as she teases out her tale.
Sometimes raw but always compelling Maksimow sets out to challenge our thinking on relationship taboos. Creating characters that are deftly drawn as she weaves the requisite elements of romance and suspense into her story arc whilst ensuring it’s never held hostage to its overarching theme.
Acknowledging that hard decisions are a fact of life and the smallest events can have enormous consequences, Maksimow insightfully explores themes such as free will and chance in determining destiny and the relationships we build. And whilst a less competent writer may have fallen into the trap of trite social comment or leant toward earth shattering relationship angst, she prefers the power of poignant moments upon which her readers might reflect.
In Maksimow’s prologue to ‘So She Wrote A Book’ she states she wanted to “write a book to inspire others and give others insight on how to overcome some of life’s many challenges,” and she has certainly done this. But she has gone further by including the words to songs upon which pivotal moments in Tania’s life turned. Making those moments not only very powerful but helping her readers understand how Tania came to make the decisions she did and reminding them that with a little faith and perseverance good things can happen.
A highly enjoyable and engrossing read that will linger in your mind, So She Wrote A Book is highly recommended.
