The BookViral Review:
A solidly crafted, suspenseful and wholly engrossing read Not Dead sees Anita Dickason at her very best with what might have easily become a routine police procedural novel elevated by the evocation of supernatural symbolism. This is Dickason’s forte and in Not Dead, she creates a tantalizingly morbid atmosphere of unease that spins along on the fears and anxieties of her lead characters. From a plot perspective, it hits the hot buttons of a mainstream police procedural thriller whilst its subject raises it to a level of moral provocation. Drip feeding readers with clues across a succinct narrative arc while still maintaining dramatic rhythm and tension. But it’s not the identity of Mandy’s abductor that gives Not Dead its bite. The enigma of Chad’s character is at the heart of Not Dead and in Chad Dickason has arguably created her best character to date. Irresistibly drawn to Ashley Logan and dogged by glimpses of the supernatural the level of tension rises throughout with a couple of well-timed and legitimate twists to keep readers guessing till the closing chapters.
Smart and highly entertaining, another super release from Dickason which will continue to build an enthusiastic following for her novels. Not Dead is recommended without reservation.
