The BookViral Review:
A superb conclusion to Smitley’s epic Soothsayer series Powerless proves nothing less than a masterclass in fantasy fiction, with its scope, depth of characterization and fascinating settings earning it parity with the best in its genre.
Far too many epic fantasy novels are thwarted by a lack of honest conversation, which makes it hard to follow a complex story. But Smitley is an inventive writer and has once again ensured our suspension of disbelief doesn’t collapse by keeping his characters wholly authentic. More importantly, Smitley knows how to hit the emotional buttons and keep the twists coming without veering off course.
First and foremost amongst his characters is the last Soothsayer Banzu Greenlief who is strong, resilient, damaged and always believable. His character is the engine that drives the Soothsayer series and allows Smitley to pose metaphysical questions about our ability to change not only the world but ourselves. Whilst Banzu’s love for Spellbinder Melora Callisticus leads us to reflect not only on the pathos that surrounds them but how far we’d be willing to go in pursuit of our heart’s desire.
Deliciously dark Smitley’s love of noir and his distinct gift for occasionally wrong-footing readers keep this final instalment in his trilogy balanced on a knife-edge throughout whilst imaginative world-building bleeds through every chapter. Thus creating a multifaceted narrative that delivers immersive storytelling to spare.
Sadly Smitley’s trilogy is at its end but he has unquestionably succeeded in delivering an epic read and Powerless is unreservedly recommended.

Time is life’s most valuable commodity, and love life’s most precious gift.
Master swordslinger and last Soothsayer Banzu Greenlief discovers the harsh reality of both these fragile truths when a beautiful stranger whirls into his hunted life of solitude
A beautiful exploration of the Sword & Sorcery genre, Jinn is the second release in Smitley’s Soothsayer Series and by any stretch of the imagination, he’s delivered another awesome story.
Let me let you into a secret. You are unlikely to become a rich writer. And before you start waving Harry Potter and Game of Thrones under my nose, please scroll back to the word ‘unlikely’.
Why Apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic fiction continues to grow in popularity.
We are constantly and enduringly fascinated with fictional accounts of parallel existence, alternative realities and genetic engineering. Films such as ‘The Fountain’ present immortality as attainable, whilst books such as ‘The Book Thief’ (Markus Zusak) explore the nature of death, in this case by death himself acting as narrator.
In our quest for an answer to the question ‘’Why do we love Superheroes?’’, we wanted to gain the perspective of ‘’we’’- the humans, and the psychology behind why we are drawn to these recognisable but otherworldly creatures.
