The BookViral Review:

Very few authors are truly adept at capturing the emotions of their characters but in Drawn From Life Sarah P Blanchard does just that to deliver a Psychological Thriller with an exciting blend of melodrama.

The overarching themes are those of loss, rehabilitation, courage and trust in which prose style and narrative find alternative expression with Blanchard delivering a complete, engrossing and above all cleverly crafted story that pays due deference to the intricacies of her characters.

Notwithstanding the all-around excellent ensemble of characters, it’s very much Emma’s story with Blanchard giving her a backstory that not only allows for a shrewd exploration of the dynamics between Emma and her estranged cousin Lacy but the wider community too.

On this level, Blanchard is clearly aware of the weight of her subject. Violence and abuse are often included in Psychological Thrillers for the shock factor alone but here Blanchard uses it to explore her main characters not only in the present but through the complicated history they’ve established in their past.

Blanchard invites us to peer closely at them, to know them as individuals, with each chapter conveying something tangible and notable with Emma’s carefully constructed and ordered life following her accident standing in contrast to that of Lucy who is self-obsessed and driven by greed.

At its most serious Drawn From Life produces some genuinely affecting moments between Emma and Lucy as they come to face their shared pasts whilst the added dimensions of Koa and Chaz keep Blanchard’s plot lively and unpredictable to the very end.

For readers looking for a read with a deeper subtext, Drawn From Life is as good as it gets and is recommended without reservation.
