The BookViral Review:
Saundra Terrell isn’t an author who serves up archetypal romance and in Another Me she gives us a read that is both intense and wholly original.
A roller coaster emotional journey impeccably orchestrated by Terrell Another Me is not simply a novel about love and sex, though both have their place. It’s about an idea. About ingrained prejudices missed opportunities and events often beyond our control. It’s about not letting life slip through our fingers. About seizing the moment and in telling Sage and Dakota’s stories Terrell instinctively finds the right notes and shadings. Her narrative is verbally smart and the various contrivances and tangles of her plot are cleverly played out.
Despite its popularity, the Romance genre is oversubscribed with lacklustre offerings and those which do well are invariably the ones with the strongest characters. In Sage and Dakota, Terrell has created two genuine gems and it’s in the telling of their backstories that the depth of her prose prevails. This is underpinned by a suspenseful narrative with the kind of razor-sharp observation that makes for unfailingly absorbing melodrama that’s smart, stylish, twisted and daring.
Terrell understands that the best romance novels pivot not only on authentic dialogue but the silent musings that occupy the minds of their characters and by keeping thoughts unspoken, by allowing her narrative to show instead of having words telling, she allows her readers to “be in the room” with her characters.
With this in mind, Terrell pulls no punches in depicting just how devastatingly bad things can get when relationships fall apart but no matter how melodramatic the story becomes, and how much the emotions boil, Another Me is sure to explore all its character’s perspectives, Here Terrell is often quite tender in her storytelling and when it comes to Dakota’s relationship with Taj your left wondering if love, when it’s not reciprocated, is just another form bondage.
A superb release from Terrell, Another Me proves wholly enthralling read that will attract an enthusiastic following of Terrell’s work. It is highly recommended!
