The BookViral Review:
A gratifyingly graphic page-turner with depth, intrigue and edgy noir backdrops, Cory Wilcox leads his readers on an unforgettable journey into the heart of evil with Missing on Orbital 4 and it certainly isn’t slow off the mark!
If a science fiction detective thriller is to be convincing it has to feel utterly plausible and yet far too many releases in the genre prove disappointing. It’s for this reason that Wilcox’s novel stands out.
A vivid and insightful writer Wilcox writes with an impeccable eye for detail to deliver a taut, compelling read with a superbly executed plot. He has a fine eye for the pressures and poignancies of his characters which combined with his ability to craft an intricate and intelligent narrative rapidly draws his readers in.
First and foremost is Jake Hemlock with Wilcox ably managing to avoid trite tropes to bring a well-worn familiarity to his character whilst imbuing him with more endearing qualities than readers typically expect from a protagonist in the genre. Crafting his persona with attention to detail, sharp dialogue and subtleties of character to give us a protagonist who seems irrevocably jaded by the evil men can do and is utterly convincing.
Supported by a lean cast of equally powerful characters any reviewer commenting on Missing on Orbital 4 would be remiss in not mentioning Hemlocks RI partner Maud. Quite simply one of the best A.I. characters you will come across in science fiction she not only completes him but provides for a little reflection as Wilcox explores those immoral certainties and aspects of human nature that the passage of time will unlikely eradicate.
A finely tuned science fiction detective thriller with cleverly orchestrated twists and well-crafted future technology. Missing on Orbital 4 might be a debut novel for Wilcox but it has all the hallmarks and style of a first-rate bestseller and is unreservedly recommended.
