SUMMARY:

Senlac is a two-part historical novel that brings to life the turbulent period leading to the Norman conquest of England in 1066, when the English were forced to defend the kingdom against invasions by both the Normans and the Vikings. The book is named for the hill upon which the final defense was mounted. The results would dramatically change the course of history.

The BookViral Review:

A red-blooded epic, Senlac Book 2 delivers a rousing read that marks the best of its genre. A read that draws on history and politics it’s compelling and immersive and to read it is to turn the last page and feel as though you have returned battle-weary from another time.

A novel that’s big on grandiose emotions like patriotism, treachery and loyalty. Julian de la Motte notably avoids the prescriptive travelogue style of far too many works of historical fiction through refreshingly uncompromising prose and a meticulous eye for detail.

Underpinned by extensive research the historical aspects alone make for gripping reading with scene after scene conveying a prevailing sense of authenticity as players revel in the intricacies of power and subterfuge.

From the battle of Stamford Bridge and the death of Harald Hardrada which is often considered to have brought an end to the Viking age. The death of King Harold’s turncoat brother Tostig. To the fated battle of Hastings and King Harold’s death on Senlac Hill. Julian de la Motte knows that a great read in any genre must go beyond its lead protagonists and this where he really comes into his own.

Giving us not only the historical figures we know but a host of powerful auxiliary characters to create a rich tapestry of players that are hard to forget and a measure of intrigue that proves wholly enthralling.

A deeply layered and exhilarating read that ensnares the imagination, Senlac Book 2 is, in every sense of the word, an epic and one that discerning fans of historical fiction must certainly add to their reading shelf. It is recommended without reservation.
