The BookViral Review:

Elizabeth Weseloh adds to her poetry collection with ‘Destruction in Love’, a narrative prose of loss and resolution.

This is a tale of emotional turmoil, romantically driven, with a distinct autobiographical feel, which takes its reader into the depths of post breakup reflection and loneliness.

Whist Weseloh conforms for the most part to traditional verse with attention to rhythm and rhyme, she experiments by periodically breaking up the text with more unstructured prose, creating a sense of intrusive desperation and emotional agony, as the reader is pulled through the mind and emotions of the author.

With a sombre timbre creating a poignant resonance to her work, Weseloh’s words reverberate with meaning, as she uses enjambment to create a story telling narrative and a sense of loss and longing, immersing her reader in her own conflict.

Weseloh concludes her journal with the hopeful stanza ‘First Peaks, Then Valleys, And On one day…A meadow’, in a metaphorical message of hope, peace and resolution, which gently brings her readers towards a calm and optimistic conclusion.

Her verse is raw and unadulterated, often relayed in a tumble of conflicting thoughts as she negotiates desire and regret in their intertwined juxtaposition and seeks meaning in the emotions and actions of others.

Weseloh understands effortlessly the human psyche as it drowns in love and resurfaces, only to willingly and relentlessly fall once again beneath sanity and sensibleness.

A poetic representation of a place where most have been, still inhabit, or look back pensively upon, ‘Destruction in Love’ ticks all the boxes for those lost in love looking for a kindred spirit.

Authors writing about prejudice and racism in literature

Whilst the issues of prejudice and discrimination are multi-faceted and complicated beyond belief, a key moment for me was the day I picked up ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’. Harper Lee implicitly drilled down the relative unfairness of human existence into my 12-year-old brain, creating a sense of outrage that has stayed with me throughout my life.
