The BookViral Review:

A Tautly paced and immersive read, Verses Of The Void proves a superb amalgam of intrigue and space opera whilst creating a notable emotive connection with its readers.

In a vastly overcrowded genre with far too many lacklustre releases, there’s no mistaking it for anything other than a first-rate Science fiction novel but unlike the vast majority of releases that spoon-feed their readers with all too familiar generic and farfetched plots, Clark repeatedly gives his readers something they can actually reflect upon.

On this level, Verses Of The Void is something of a rarity. It’s ambitious in scope and viscerally powerful with the kind of attention to detail that not only makes Clark’s Martian colony and incredible future technology seem tantalizingly real it reminds us there are always two sides to every war.

Building just enough back story to establish key characters in the lead-up to pivotal events, it’s relentlessly intense with one of the key strengths of “Verses Of The Void” being its deliberate pacing. It’s certainly not slow to start, and Clark is quick to build momentum, establishing the rationale for war from opposing perspectives.

Reducing each chapter to its essence, he gives us just enough to contemplate it and fire our imaginations before moving on. The narrative is always clear, but readers expecting easy plot cues will be sorely disappointed with Clark demanding our full attention throughout.

Invariably dark at times what makes Verses Of The Void particularly refreshing is that whilst Earth is on the brink of extinction it doesn’t feel the need to force existential questions about humanity that are typically central to sci-fi novels. They are simply woven into Clark’s narrative which in turn allows him to explore the human dimensions and their tragic consequences in greater depth.

Once introduced Whisper remains at the centre of Clark’s narrative. She’s a technological marvel and quite simply one of the best A.I. characters you will come across in science fiction and though richly allegorical her ‘intelligence’ seems anything but artificial as she becomes the catalyst for spiralling events.

Simply excellent Verses Of The Void is one of those rare novels that actually lives up to its potential and is an unreservedly recommended five-star read!
