The BookViral Review:

In The Nosferatu Conspiracy Graphic Novel: Lady of the Loch Brian James Gage gave us an evocatively powerful example of graphic storytelling using emerging media and Circle of 6 Graphic Serial | Vol. 1: Welcome Home finds him once again on form.

Illustration today embraces a vast array of new materials, innovative techniques and bewildering AI wizardry. But drawing is where it starts, and it is Gage’s understanding of the fundamental principles of illustrations that make his illustrations such an accessible read.

The opening illustrations in Welcome Home are stunning. They are a visual tour de force that creates an immediately haunting atmosphere and sets both standard and tone for the remainder of the novel.

At first, you’ll notice Welcome Home is dominated by Gage’s hauntingly powerful images with the words of William Butler (Author) and Aaron Strongoni (Author) simply setting the plot. Some of Gage’s images have no words at all and that’s how it should be with a graphic novel where images and words combine to saturate the imagination.

Dark, engrossing, otherworldly and anachronistic Welcome Home is not only lavish but features an emotional depth that’s rare in horror fiction and should delight fans and newcomers to the genre alike. Written and drawn by a new generation of writers and artists graphic novels are becoming increasingly popular and releases like Welcome Home are setting the new standard for mature and immersive graphic reading.

With subtle use of perspective, Gage cunningly exploits the angles created as each page is turned, giving the illusion of depth on the page. The illustrations are intricate and atmospheric with an eloquent interplay of light and shade. This creates a narrative element that invites, and richly rewards, any amount of exploration and interpretation. Welcome Home demands to be read by candlelight and it’s sure to keep its readers on edge to the very end.

A powerful start to Circle of 6 Graphic Serial by Butler, Strongoni and Gage, Vol. 1: Welcome Home is highly recommended!
