The BookViral Review:

An evocatively powerful example of graphic storytelling using emerging media, multi multi-award-winning horror Novelist Gage has created a powerful and absorbing graphic novel using innovative AI-generated artwork with his gothic imagination and instinct for plot combining to make its pages come to life.

Quiet often with graphic storytelling the overall package is diminished by the clash between plot and illustrative style but Gage has struck an equitable balance which given this is his first graphic novel is a remarkable achievement.

Bringing out the humanity of his characters and their situation Gage’s illustration style is well suited to his prose whilst the faces of his caricatures are emotionally rich, leaving the reader in little doubt as to what’s going through their minds.

Likewise, scenes and backdrops are wonderfully creative, to deliver a genuine sense of presence that gels flawlessly with Gage’s plot. And it’s bewitching too: the darkly foreboding architecture of The Winter Palace; the Shadow Man sitting by Alexei’s bedside, Rasputin’s brooding presence. Throughout, Gage captures an utterly convincing sense of terror, his strips full of movement and life with beautifully saturated colour palettes that are quite haunting.

With Gage’s intent on reimagining his haunting trilogy into an ambitious graphic novel serialization that will span an estimated thirty volumes upon completion, it’s an ambitious undertaking but with such a visually compelling graphic debut that’s so beautifully executed, The Nosferatu Conspiracy Graphic Serial, Volume One: Lady of the Loch is a showcase for what AI-generated artwork can deliver when narrative and vision are in sync. It is an unreservedly recommended Golden Quill read.
