The BookViral Review:

Fun, decidedly dark and certainly different, Ben, Tico, Holly and Ava have dealt with a lot of strange magic over the years but none stranger than the abduction of Rose by the fearsome beast Rapscallion.

Written at a quick, entertaining pace The Rose In The Glass Dome is a blend of magical intrigue and adventure and whilst the theme is familiar, Penington has a unique style of writing that sets his work apart. Like all the best fairy tales, his novel is delightfully dark and fuelled by an immense joy in story-telling which quickly immerses the reader in his narrative.

The story’s far from the stuff of legend, its revisionist tone is startlingly enough to carry its readers along whilst not feeling like it’s been cobbled together from pieces of every fantasy novel ever written.

With well-defined characters, Penington demonstrates an eye for character detail that makes them instantly identifiable and whilst some are more endearing than others they are all very memorable. Each is captured with a distinctive tenor that adds to the thematic undertones of his tale whilst the playful and well-meaning spirit of The Rose In The Glass Dome carries its plot.

There is a sort of unintentional campy fun to be had in places with Esteban’s faux bravado sure to bring a smile to readers’ faces whilst a rousing fight scene between Rose and Holly plays to the darker undercurrents of Penington’s narrative.

A read that undoubtedly deserves your attention The Rose In The Glass Dome is particularly recommended to fans of darker fairytales and strong female characters.
