The BookViral Review:
An exploration of the Teen & Young Adult Fantasy genre Jaben’s Rift: Far Land Trilogy #1 takes us into uncharted territory which fans of the genre will certainly applaud.
There are lots of okay books in the genre, but for the majority, they are stories lacking in coherent plots that you can read in pieces but they’re a puzzle that never gets solved with the worlds in which they take place never feeling unique. But Walker gives us so much more with plot threads that weave together to deliver a compelling blend of magical intrigue and awakening as he draws us ever deeper into the PD (post devastation) world of Teleria.
Fantasy fiction should be a genre where ideas have no limits and the imagination is free. But it takes a read like Jaben’s Rift to remind us just how rarely this happens with Walker delivering a top-notch and thoughtful narrative that delves into the philosophical and moral questions of being endowed with arcane powers.
You won’t find an instance of padding or an eye-glazing moment of dull self-indulgence from Walker just a timeless story of magic rooted in unique characters with Jason, Reyga and Lenai quick to make an impression whilst one of the principal virtues of Walker’s novel is that his young characters act like real teenagers with diverting action scenes and adolescent angst.
A highly enjoyable 5-star read with sturdy, unwavering characters driven to evil or good Jaben’s Rift is refreshingly free of trite clichés and unreservedly recommended to discerning fans of the Teen & Young Adult Fantasy genre.
