The BookViral Review:

With The Academy watching her every move and Pete Davenport in the wind, Katie Connelly finds herself the focus of Ranger’s attention and the outcome is far from predictable!

It’s easy to wax lyrical when a series gets off to a good start but fans of Daly’s Academy Saga can take it for granted that she’s once again on fine form. This time taking us into the inner sanctum of the academy as Katie Connelly comes to terms with her new life and what’s expected of her. It’s not a plot that demands analysis but it’s an area in which Daly really delivers.  The narrative is smart, slick and hard-edged whilst the characters are again exceptional but as with Book One it’s Katie Connelly who steals the limelight.

A refreshingly original character, she doesn’t come off as a superhero (although her genes suggest otherwise), and neither does Daly overplay her gift. With Cadet in training very much pivoting on the dynamics between Katie and Ranger as they find their connection growing ever stronger and increasingly more volatile.

This doesn’t detract from the action, of which there is plenty but with the same kind of emotional arc as book one Cadet in Training is ultimately about Katie Connelly’s transformation and it’s the emotional connection that Daly makes with her readers that makes it such a standout read.

A top-notch military romance and a superb second instalment in The Academy series Cadet In Training is sure to delight Daly’s many fans and is recommended without reservation.

Authors writing about prejudice and racism in literature

Whilst the issues of prejudice and discrimination are multi-faceted and complicated beyond belief, a key moment for me was the day I picked up ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’. Harper Lee implicitly drilled down the relative unfairness of human existence into my 12-year-old brain, creating a sense of outrage that has stayed with me throughout my life.
