SUMMARY: Jude Brannock is an investigator for an animal protection organization. When the young man she has trained for an undercover assignment suddenly vanishes after a tantalizing text that he’s “on to something,” Jude risks blowing Tim’s cover to look for him. Her reasons are as personal as they are professional. Tim is not only a rookie, but also Jude’s sometime lover.
The BookViral Review: Readers looking for a soundly executed, intelligent and riveting thriller would do well to pick up a copy of The Experiment. It’s the third release in Robin Lamont’s Kinship Series and it’s both poignant and plausible with thought-provoking social commentary. But whilst increasing numbers of thrillers centre on protagonists who are overly masochistic, Lamont gives us a lead who feels authentically real. Flawed but driven Jude is willing to risk everything to undercover the truth surrounding Tim’s disappearance with events evolving in tightly focused chapters that take us to the crux of her narrative. With well-wrought dialogue, the underpinning plot is fast-paced, clever and inventive and on this level, The Experiment not only works as pure entertainment but as a genre model of implacable storytelling. Dig a little deeper though and it’s also a powerful reflection of the times we live in. Evoking a strong sense of place, moral choices, immoral certainties and human nature Lamont’s spotlight on animal rights proves wholly thought-provoking and leaves us with much to reflect upon.
A highly entertaining and compelling read The Experiment is sure to have broad appeal and is recommended without reservation.
