The BookViral Review:
Every debut novelist faces the challenge of constructing an entirely new world or delving into the mysteries of this one but with THE LIGHT WITHIN THE DARKNESS Schimanski seems to have embraced both and it proves an intriguing choice.
Shorter fiction is proving increasingly popular yet it takes something a little different to stand out and Schimanski has penned an imaginative plot with plenty of unexpected twists and turns along the way. And whilst her plot is notably devoid of extraneous complexity she still manages to throw in a few curve balls to keep her readers guessing.
Taking elements of science and dystopian fiction Schimanski gives us colourful scenes that are easy to imagine. Scenes that are centered around her young protagonist Seria and leave the imagination free to blossom.
As a novella and an introduction to Seria’s world it’s a relatively quick pageturner and yet both plot and characters create the substance of a much bigger read with the dynamics between Schimanski’s main characters vividly bringing them to life.
This helps add the depth that the majority of shorter stories lack whilst clearly creating the foundation for a saga of more epic proportions and one that breaks the archetypical mould.
An intriguing release for Schimanski with a cliffhanger ending that promises more things from Seria and the X-Factors THE LIGHT WITHIN THE DARKNESS is certainly recommended.
