The BookViral Review:

An agreeably vivid page-turner with depth and intrigue, JL Yarrow (the collaborative partnership of John Yarrow and partner Leanne Yarrow) leads readers on an unforgettable high-octane journey through time with the stakes growing ever higher.

The central premise for time travel thrillers often involves changing history, either intentionally or by accident, and the ways by which altering the past changes the future and creates an altered present or future for the time traveller upon their return home. If a time travel thriller is to be convincing it has to feel utterly plausible. Far too many releases in the genre prove disappointing, but in Future’s Dark Past (Book 1 in Yarrow’s Time Forward Trilogy) and here again in Future Unfolds (Book 2) Yarrow delivers something refreshingly original in the genre.

An imaginative and insightful writer Yarrow writes with an impeccable eye for detail to deliver a taut, compelling read with a superbly executed plot. Yarrow has a fine eye for the pressures and poignancies of characters which combined with an ability to craft an intricate and intelligent narrative rapidly draws readers in.

First and foremost among Yarrow’s characters is Hunter. Wrong-footed, hunted and once again finding himself allied to future temporal agent Kristen the chemistry is perfectly pitched. She’s a moral choice amongst immoral certainties and Yarrow revels in the duality of their relationship as converging plotlines come together. It’s a complex web of time-warp navigation that Yarrow weaves and yet the timelines are always crystal clear with the future conflict between Kants and Chen-Yi yielding blood-curdling battle scenes and plenty of cerebral reflection.

In developing Hunter and Kristen Yarrow have managed to avoid trite genre tropes to bring a well-worn familiarity to their characters whilst imbuing them with more endearing qualities than readers typically expect from protagonists in the genre. Crafting their personas with attention to detail, sharp dialogue and subtleties of character to give us protagonists who seem irrevocably jaded by the evil men can do and are utterly convincing.

Supported by a lean cast of equally powerful  characters any reviewer commenting on Future Unfolds would be remiss in not mentioning Hunter’s ‘Wolf’ AI Comperi.  A superb A.I. character you will come across none better in the Science Fiction genre. She not only completes him but provides for a little reflection and humour as Yarrow explores those immoral certainties and aspects of human nature that the passage of time will unlikely eradicate.

A finely tuned science fiction thriller with cleverly orchestrated twists and well-crafted future technology Future Unfolds has all the hallmarks and style of a first-rate bestseller and is an unreservedly recommended Golden Quill read!
