The BookViral Review:
Smart, suspenseful and satisfyingly unpredictable Forever Ends proves an absorbing read. Comfortably managing to avoid the genre’s many syrupy pitfalls to give us a story that quickly morphs in the imagination.
Both narratively and stylistically Hibbs creates meaningful and believable characters, with the requisite degree of emotional honesty to bring them to life whilst it’s her attention to detail that makes them feel authentic as she captures the contemporary everyday textures of her Gimli setting.
Gabrielle, despite the tragedy in her life, isn’t a stereotypical character who wears her angst on her sleeve. Her self-esteem keeps her centred. She’s smart and selfless and we never get the feeling that Ryan and she are trapped in a cycle of fake melodrama and brainless coincidences that sadly litter the genre. This means it’s carefully crafted, civilized in its sensibilities, and interested more in characterization than in shock effects.
This is particularly true of Gabrielle’s interactions with Christina and here Hibbs’ plot proves refreshingly unpredictable as Gabrielle finds herself juggling her burgeoning romance with Ryan whilst we are kept on tenterhooks as she tries to figure out the right direction to take in helping Christina and solve the otherworldly riddle of her disappearance.
Here, there’s more than enough originality and emotional weight to Hibbs’ narrative to keep us engrossed throughout without resorting to lump-in-the-throat histrionics whilst a richly realized array of secondary characters makes Forever Ends a beguiling read in more ways than one.
A thoroughly enjoyable read from start to finish Forever Ends is certainly recommended.
