The BookViral Review:
If you want to read a good horror novel about a child from hell which will keep you on tenterhooks from its nightmarish opening scene to its chilling last page then Grace Tainted Blood is definitely the read for you!
An atmospheric and genuinely chilling read Yvonne Varsan knows how to write memorable horror stories. Not manufactured ones made up from the recycled plots of other best sellers. She writes novels in which the horror grows out from the characters themselves as she gleefully torches the familiar “good versus evil” formula and introduces far more sinister sensibilities in the form of Grace.
She isn’t another stereotyped product of the horror production line with a tacked-on crisis. Her story does more than thrill, frighten, and captivate; it sends the imagination into overdrive, reminding us of everything a horror story should be. A harrowing story of unthinkable family tragedy that veers into the realm of the supernatural with a narrative steeped in a brooding atmosphere of psychological suspense.
In the main, this is thanks to Varsan’s hugely imaginative style of writing that combines an eclectic mix of dollhouse dread and genre chic underpinned by particularly well-nuanced characters. But the best parts of Grace Tainted Blood are the twists to Varsan’s plot. The kind of startling twists you don’t see coming. That combine the logic of a situation with audacity in exploiting its terror and this is something Varsan does particularly well to keep her readers on edge throughout.
A gripping read from beginning to end Grace Tainted Blood proves an enjoyable introduction to Varson’s original style of page-turning horror and is certainly recommended.
