The BookViral Review: Genre – Contemporary Romantic Fiction

Fans of contemporary romantic fiction looking for a welcome diversion should pick up a copy of Whispered Wishes which sees Lilley once again on top form.

Far too many offerings in the genre recycle plots so that you see it coming from a great distance away but Lilley always manages to keep her novels fresh and original without reinventing the wheel and she’s certainly achieved this with Whispered Wishes.

As with her previous releases it’s about much more than beautiful people and knowing looks with Lilley’s narrative speaking as much to the mind as to the heart, and much of what she writes is likely to strike a responsive chord. Yes, there are betrayals, melodrama and the obligatory sexual chemistry but Lilley handles the relationship between Olivia and Nathan with patience and a gentle touch. The way in which ordinary time unfolds for people, as they cross paths, start talking, share their thoughts and begin exploring each other’s boundaries.

At its most serious Whispered Wishes produces some genuinely affecting moments between Olivia and Nathan as they come to face the mistakes and tragedies of their pasts whilst the added dimension of Lucas keeps Lilley’s plot lively and unpredictable to the very end.

A standout read in an ever-popular genre and another superb release from Lilley Whispered Wishes is recommended without reservation.
