SUMMARY: A crime thriller from the author of THE ENGLANDS series Detective Jack Sledge used to have a life, although it’s hard for him to remember back that far. After serving two tours in Afghanistan, and working ten years solving cold cases in Atlanta and Chicago, he’s had enough of death and grieving. When ready to get back to work as a detective with the Winter Garden Police Department he finds his greatest challenge to be a personal one – Sarah!
The BookViral Review:
Uncompromising and utterly compelling, Winter Garden proves a wonderfully atmospheric read from the start where clever narrative twists and memorable characters combine to provide a powerful and malevolent tale of warped revenge. With Winkler taking the time favoured tropes of the genre and fine-tuning them to deliver a disturbing narrative that reminds us why the best crime thrillers never age.
With intrigue oozing from its pages, Winkler ingeniously manages to penetrate the enigma of lives gone toxically wrong as her protagonists become intrinsically linked to events beyond their control. It’s a well-observed telling with Winkler reminding us that fear is a universal emotion and one that she exploits to its fullest with many heart-pounding moments along the way.
Rarely is the pervading presence of evil so manifestly demonstrated as it is with Max, whose presence remains prevailingly disturbing throughout. There’s no unnecessary glut of blood and hysteria, it isn’t needed, with the continuous threat existing in his predatory presence.
In this way, Winkler builds the tension in sure calculating steps whilst leveraging the interplay between Jack and Sarah, who both have just the right blend of determination and vulnerability to build a series around.
This works its way through strong backstories which Winkler confidently juggles, finally bringing them together in a perfectly pitched denouement that is guaranteed to leave her readers eager for another book.
A page-turner that is sure to be well received by fans of the genre Winter Garden is recommended without reservation.

Garrison’s words echo many common biblical beliefs, such as the call to live according to the fruitages of the spirit, such as hope, joy and love. However, Victoria Brown’s message through her daughter does not shy away from some lesser accepted Bible principles.
The magical allure of time travel has held a fascination for the layman and scientist alike. Indeed, no well-read individual can think of time travel without their mind creeping back to H.G Wells.
We said it so often it seems like we are on continuous replay but we make no apology for saying it again. The days when an author could simply write for a living are over.
It is estimated that there are approximately 4,300 religions in the world. Even then, the concept of religion itself is hard to understand – in some people’s eyes synonymous with spirituality, and in others largely a vehicle for control.
