The BookViral Review:

An ironic bang-up thriller about a disparate crew of second-tier professional wrestlers who find themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time with devastating consequences Blood In The Holler has all the hallmarks of a classic.

Underpinned by a terrific ensemble of vividly drawn characters its narrative is spun in a seductively slick fashion by author David Sangiao-Parga whose five pro wrestlers must use every trick they’ve learnt in their wrestling careers if they’re to survive.

There have been scores of kidnapping thrillers released in recent years and few stand out from the pack but Blood In The Holler is a grisly piece of work that earns your suspension of disbelief. With its dense plot intricacies that are thick with atmosphere, it’s an accomplished fusion of noir elements and, as such, is a superb debut entry to the genre.

A thriller that takes on an objective quality in our minds Sangiao-Parga dares us to reason or fight our way out alongside his unfortunate group of wrestlers and whilst occasionally heavy-handed, Sangiao-Parga delivers a startling emotional core with death just a heartbeat away.

If you are a fan of professional wrestling you will likely love it and if you aren’t you’ll be hard-pressed to deny its crazy fervour with Sangiao-Parga’s dialogue of such high quality it deserves comparison with other masters of spare, hard-boiled prose.

Most conversations in today’s thrillers are deadly boring, which is why authors with no gift for dialogue depend so heavily on action to propel their narratives forward. The characters in ” Blood In The Holler” are always talking, and always interesting, funny,  or intimidating and it’s the kind of read that will transition extremely well into an audiobook.

The book is divided between Brick’s and John’s search for Julia (Goth Girl), Eric, Terry, Burt and Ricky and the Cemetery Road farm setting where the latter are being held. It’s here Blood In The Holler is at its nerve-shredding best with well-judged suspense and some cleverly contrived surprises you won’t see coming.

But it isn’t the plot or dialogue (though both are undeniably excellent) that makes ” Blood In The Holler” a great book. Love them or hate them, this comes from its marriage of vividly original characters and when you turn the last page you’ll know you’ve just read a book by a master of character development.

As good as the genre gets from an author with a very bright future Blood In The Holler is an unreservedly recommended Golden Quill read!
