The BookViral Review:
In her charming follow up to ‘A Globe Adventure’, Theresa Lynn offers us her new tale ‘Beyond the Clouds-A Space Adventure’. Told in her familiar blend of entertaining and educational prose as she takes us far from Earth, in a wonderful exploration of the Universe.
Using the same family demographic as in her previous story, for this adventure Lynn chooses a girl, cleverly seeking to eradicate stereotyping and uphold gender equality. Her implicit message that girls ambitions and expectations can reflect those of boys is not lost on the reader.
From gazing out of her window at the stars to embarking on her imagined adventure, our young protagonist takes the reader on an exhilarating journey, where she encounters stars, constellations, planets and even a satellite. With a story both exciting and instructional, Lynn teaches us not only the names of constellations and planets, but also about their characteristics, culminating in the blazing hot sun.
Theresa Lynn does not shy away from challenging concepts and vocabulary, understanding that stretching young learners intellect as well as their imagination is a pedologically sound strategy for learning and progress. Rhyme is used to great effect, creating musicality, and conferring predictable pleasure, along with serving as a memory aid.
Simple but effective imagery, including a picture of our neighbour planets in relation to the sun, supports Lynn’s tale, furnishing parents and carers with talking points with which to build even more knowledge and understanding of the Earths place from the perspective of the Universe.
Concluding with the young adventurer and her Mum gazing up at the moon together, this delightful adventure story is a welcome addition to Theresa Lynn’s collection and highly recommended!
